BURRI – Painting, unshakeable presence

About thirty years after the last memorable solo show at the former Shipyards on the Giudecca which saw 18 works as the protagonists of the Sestante cycle, Venice is re-presenting this great master of the Italian informal, a pioneer of new painting in the late Twentieth century, with an anthological retrospective featuring the most significant stages of his career.

By curator Bruno Corà, the president of the Burri Foundation, and showcased in the venues of the Napoleonic Wing, this exhibition offers about fifty works from important Italian and foreign museums, from the Burri Foundation and from prestigious private collections in a sequence reproposing virtually all of the master’s most famous cycles: from the very rare Catrami from 1948, to his final and monumental Cellotex from 1994.

The exhibition is completed by a multi-media documentary section about the artist’s entire activity and a bilingual catalogue.
