The exhibition illustrates the significance of the journey by Emperor Manuel II (1399-1403) and of his diplomatic gifts, in eight sections, against the background of events leading to the fall of Constantinople in 1453, showing the intense cultural exchange between Europe – and Venice in particular – and Byzantium, at the dawn of Humanism.
A short film introduces the dramatic situation of Byzantium in the last decades before the fall of Constantinople.
