1948: la Biennale di Peggy Guggenheim.

25 May – 14 January 2019

It was 1948 when the American art collector and devotee exhibited her own selection of works at the 24th Venice Biennale, in the Greek pavilion: it was the most complete and coherent description of modernism ever presented up to that moment, with artworks by Arshile Gorky, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, displayed in Europe for the first time.
Seventy years later, the Collection born from Peggy Guggenheim’s hoard is commemorating that event with this exhibition, which reconstructs the original spaces and the lay-out of 1948 planned by eminent Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa, by means of documents, photographs, letters and a maquette.
