The Oratory of the Crociferi is an emblematic example of connection between art and assistance, work of a culture that was very sensitive to material needs as much as to spiritual ones.
Considered their vision, the ancient benefactors had decided to celebrate with canvases by Jacopo Palma the Younger the story of who had commissioned that structure through a serie of paintings representing even the simple life of the adjacent hospice.
The paintings can be divided into three categories: some related to the history of the Crociferi and to their hospital in Venice, others that refer to the function of the Oratory as a chapel of a hospital and finally those relating to the liturgical character typical of the chapels of that time. The paintings depict the patrons, monks and poor women hosted by the property.
