Specializing predominantly in maritime dishes, the restaurant showcases the bounty of the Adriatic Sea with fresh catches of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans, prepared according to age-old recipes passed down through the centuries in Venice. These delicacies are further enhanced with seasonal vegetables and delicate seasonings. However, the culinary experience extends beyond the sea, offering a refined interpretation of Venetian and Italian cuisine that seamlessly marries local meats and vegetables with the influences of international gastronomy.

A Glimpse into Venice’s Culinary Traditions

The history of Ristorante Trattoria Do Forni in Venice is intertwined with the city’s most characteristic and ancient traditions. During the glorious years of the Serenissima Republic, this very location housed a bakery that supplied bread and sweets to the nearby San Zaccaria convent (Palazzo Ducale). A small portion also served as a typical Venetian osteria, offering local delights known as “cicchetti.”

Following the downfall of the Venetian Republic in 1797, the osteria’s presence expanded, occupying the spaces previously used as a bakery. In the 19th century, the establishment transformed into a restaurant while retaining its historical name, and it has been known as Ristorante Do Forni ever since.

A Legacy of Culinary Excellence

In 1973, the reins of Ristorante Do Forni were handed over to Mr. Eligio Paties, who infused his passion for cooking as a cultural pursuit and vocation, along with an innate sense of hospitality. Under his stewardship, the restaurant has become a sought-after destination for those visiting Venice, offering an experience steeped in the noblest traditions of hospitality.

Ristorante Do Forni welcomes guests with traditional and elegant Venetian ambience, as well as luxurious settings that faithfully recreate the hospitality of the dining car on the Orient Express.
