Conceived in 2015, the Dorsoduro Museum Mile welcomes visitors in a circuit just over a mile long that crosses the Dorsoduro district, between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, making it travel through eight centuries of world art history: from the masterpieces of medieval and Renaissance Venetian painting of the Accademia Galleries, to the protagonists of the contemporary art scene exhibited at Punta della Dogana , passing through the historic houses-museum of Vittorio Cini and Peggy Guggenheim, which house the collections of these great patrons.
The Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia, established by Napoleonic decree in 1807 with educational purposes for the training of young artists, are one of the most important museum institutions in Italy and present the most complete collection of Venetian art in the world from the 1300s to the 1800s. The museum is located in the complex including the former church and school of Santa Maria della Carità and the convent of the Lateran Canons, designed by Palladio. It preserves masterpieces by Bellini, Piero della Francesca, Mantegna, Bosch, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiepolo and Canova. In 2015 the Galleries renovated the exhibition spaces, and a further selection of works can now be admired with the help of the most up-to-date technological tools.Campo della CaritàDorsoduro 1050 – 30123 Venezia www.gallerieaccademia.it
